About Randal Fisher

I grew up in Inglewood California in a home that had huge posters and portraits of musicians like Dexter Gordon, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk. My Father's huge vinyl collection consisted of musicians ranging from Fats Navarro to Archie Shepp and everything in between.

When I was 11 years old, I made the decision to learn to play the clarinet knowing how players like John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter started on that instrument before eventually adding the saxophone and so I began my journey of music. Thanks to the support of my father I added the alto saxophone when I was 13 and switched to tenor at 15.

I have been playing ever since and have studied with Ricky Washington, the Father of world renown saxophonist Kamasi Washington, Reggie Andrews, and Bobby Bryant jr. While going to Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, I played in the LA multi school Jazz Band under the direction of Reggie Andrews. Los Angeles musicians like almost all of the original members of Kamasi Washington's band, the West Coast Get Down, played in this band when they were going to high schools in LA. In that band I played at the 2004 playboy jazz festival.

While leading my own Jazz Ensemble, I toured in Aloe Blacc's Backing band, The Grand Scheme. I am a member of the Los Angeles based band, The Ethio Cali Ensemble. I play Dexter Story's band Wondem and I play with the Pan African Peoples' Arkestra.

I have performed with, toured, recored for and appeared on television with artists like Aloe Blacc, Kamasi Washington, Tony Allen, Mark deClive Lowe, Lukas Graham, Santigold, Olly Murs, Lupe Fiasco, HIAM, Meklit, Sinkane, Kan Wakan, Kadhja Bonet, and many others.
