About Haul

Steve Hall, better known by fans of his music by his stage name, HAUL, is a Canadian rapper who was born and raised in the booming oil town of Fort McMurray, Alberta on February 20th, 1985. The roots of his rap career date back to 2002 when he started writing rhymes and freestyling with fellow classmates Andrew Pliska (Str8 Trip), Cory Fitzpatrick (FOWL) and Jamie Whitford (Griddy). Throughout his high school years, HAUL learnt the art of melody through rhyme and how to write conceptualized, themed and story based hip hop. As HAUL grew older, there would be periods of time where he never picked up a pen to write and just let his feelings bottle up inside of himself. These were often times of struggle and addiction, but always led way to bigger and better music. In 2005, HAUL released his first mixtape titled "High School Devil", which was a collection of songs from his high school years and shortly after up until 2005. ("High School Devil" was revised and remastered in 2014) HAUL moved to Calgary in 2005 to attend college for computer animation, which he promptly dropped out of. It was here in Calgary, where he met up with fellow emcee and friend Ill Magill and conceptualized Mind Caliber. During his time in Calgary, HAUL started writing his second mixtape "Adopt To Rot", "Adopt To Rot" finally landed in hands in 2008, when HAUL released the mixtape online and in the actual world via a short run of CDs he made himself at a graphics and print shop he worked at after moving back to Fort McMurray. The mixtape was met with good reviews with songs such as "Rollin' In The Car" and "Puppet Girl" being feature tracks on the album. ("Adopt To Rot" was revised and remastered in 2014) Coming hot off of the release of "Adopt To Rot", HAUL's SoundClick website was on fire and it seemed everybody wanted to do a song with him. Over the year or so, HAUL worked on plenty of solo and collaborative works which culminated into his third mixtape "Love, Hate, Hip Hop" which released online in 2009 to rave reviews from underground emcees, fans and friends alike. HAUL also tried changing his name shortly after "Love, Hate, Hip Hop" in what culminated into "The NeXuS EP" ("Love, Hate, Hip Hop" was revised and remastered in 2014) After the collaborative efforts on "Love, Hate Hip Hop", HAUL decided it was time to work on fully solo album and one which he would consider to be his first studio album. He linked up with producer Sinima Beats in 2009 and worked out a deal for exclusive production on the album, which would come to be know as "My Living World". The album took two years to come out and landed in 2011 with the only feature on the album being Sinima himself on HAUL's song "Road Get's Rough". Other stand out tracks were "Nothing To Gain", which HAUL was a top three finalist in the John Lennon Song Writing Contest for writing. Also, HAUL wrote his two first horror themed songs "Elixir of the Satyr" and "Bark at the Moon" which were fan favorites. ("My Living World" was revised, remastered and re-released in 2014 on iTunes and all major online stores) After going through a tough break up and again struggling with a drug addiction, HAUL was in a bit of a hiatus from music for a couple of years. During this time, he read lots of books about world history, ancient civilizations, science and conspiracy theories, which helped him keep his mind active while getting clean off the dope. Sometime in 2012, after the winter solstice, HAUL had an image pop into his head. An image of Jesus riding in a spaceship killing aliens and saving Earth from the evil that has had a choke hold on it for so long. Alas, the "Space Jesus" concept was born. Originally planned as a two part EP "Space Jesus" and "Space Jesus Strikes Back", HAUL scrapped the two part idea in favor of a full length album when he cleverly interjected the word "Illuminati" in front of "Space Jesus" to get the now legendary album name "Illuminati Space Jesus". Over the course of two and a half years, HAUL conceptualized, wrote, scrapped and rewrote so many songs for the album, that many, including himself, never thought "Illuminati Space Jesus" was ever going to come out. Like it was some sort of G&R Chinese Democracy or Duke Nukem vaporware. Not so. On August 8th, 2014, HAUL released his second full length studio album as a free timed exclusive on his website, soon to be followed up with physical copies and digital releases everywhere online on September 11th, 2014. "Illuminati Space Jesus" has been met with great support and success and has received rave reviews from fans the world over. 2014 has seen the first of the HAUL music videos to come out, as well as HAUL's first real gigs and shows. HAUL plans on doing a tour sometime in the near future. With a planned follow up to "Illuminati Space Jesus" for a spring 2015 release, HAUL has a completely different concept he is working on for his third studio album.
