With body-shaking beats, carefree vibe and positive anthems, the brother-sister duo consisting of KJ and Jamila Sims, have already began to establish a name for themselves. Seamlessly complimenting each other’s sound, KJ is the jazzy rapper who delivers rhymes with reality and true lyricism, while the sophisticated vocalist, Jamila, intensifies the song with her soaring melodies and contagious hooks. Coming from humble beginnings, KJ and Jamila Sims tried their hand at music after a suggestion from their mother, one scorching summer night. Like a sudden strike of a match, the fire for music was immediately ignited within them both, and they have yet to look back. Originally hailing from the sunny state of California, KJ and Jamila’s relocation to Indiana/Chicago area, is remembered as the turning point for the duo, as their music was no longer just a hobby and they were determined to make it their future career. Their new home meant a fresh introduction to studios and other musicians that would assist in crafting their sound. Honing a sound and style, Jamila and KJ have spent copious hours originating something all their own. Engrossed in creating powerful lyrics and melodies, the pair still fulfills their role as brother and sister as they keep each other grounded by their practical jokes and friendly banter. Though separated by a few years in age, the siblings couldn’t imagine working without each other. KJ says, “we understand each other and when one of us creates a vision for a song it clicks in the other one so quickly. Plus, when I’m inspired by a beat or a lyric I can find Jamila in the other room ready to knock it out with me”. In 2010, the Chrome Cats signed with Lakefront Records and worked to release their first national single, “DNA of a Winner”, produced by three-time Billboard charting producer Floyd “Timeless” Thomas, which held its own on the music charts for weeks.
