About MeLL
A gifted singer/songwriter and guitarist with a passion for country and folk music, Mell Preusker showcases her insights about life with her soaring vocals and emotive acoustic melodies.
Her roots, growing up in South Australia’s farming landscape in the Murray Mallee region and her schooling experience in the Barossa Valley, have shaped her work. Many artists have inspired her creatively, including Joni Mitchell, Jewel, Michelle Branch and Australia’s own Angela Hayden.
Her own personal experiences have lent a depth and maturity to her works, including the passing of her father at age 24, which has shaped her outlook on life and as a result, her music.
An experienced and confident performer, Mell is no stranger to the stage and was involved in three high-calibre stage musicals during secondary school, including Les Miserables, West Side Story, and the lead character of Anna Leonowens in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s acclaimed ‘The King & I.’
Among her many accolades and achievements,
Mell has received the award of “Most Promising Artist Under 25” in the Leafy Sea Dragon Festival, earning her a place in 2009’s Champion of Champion’s competition.
She also won the Herbie Collins Memorial Award (at Mount Gambier) in 2010.
She received 1st Place Songwriters for her song "Mallee Yodel" at the Port Pirie Music Festival in 2014.
Burra Country Music Festival 2016 for 2nd place in the “Country Rock” category and 3rd Place in Songwriters for her original song "Humbug Man”.
And Burra Country Music Festival 2017, 1st place in “Country Rock” and 2nd Place in Songwriters for her song “Highway”.
Her most recent commendation gained was the 2017 Mid- North Scholarship to the Academy of Country music in Tamworth which will take place between the 6th and 19th of January 2018!
A dedicated and tenacious artist, Mell seeks out challenges and opportunities to develop her skills and try new approaches - demonstrated when she learned yodelling and subsequently wrote a song reminiscing the landscape of her childhood - “Mallee Yodel.”
Her ultimate goal is to release her own album, showcasing her diverse musical works and to continue her career trajectory.
