Rufus Wainwright

Rufus is always truly amazing, this series of shows " retro- spective" featuring mostly his best loved iconic songs is a special treat. Voice perfect, resounding, piano and guitar superlative. Melodies and lyrics heartfelt and soaring. In this absolutely amazing Groton Hill Music Center venue, with a top-flight piano, Rufus' sound was out if this world. The architecture, sound, lighting , quality of seating, and alternating offset rising rows of seats for optimum viewing, makes Groton one of the best venues I've ever attended, in my 60 years of thousands of shows. A perfect musical experience.

Rufus was amazing. I’ve seen him many times before, and his voice just continues to mesmerize me. In addition, he’s funny, honest and just so real. That said, the venue was, let’s just say, ‘interesting’. I had a ticket for a 7:30p performance. Yet, not only did it not start until 7:51p, there was no announcement as to what was happening with the delay - is it a delay? Has it been cancelled? And then so many interruptions - it was quite rude.

Great opening act by Claire and the Reasons. Loved Claire's beautiful soft voice. I loved seeing Rufus in this intimate venue. Particularly beautiful to see and hear his piano skills. The "tolling bells" he created on the piano was particularly powerful in the song he wrote when his Mum was ill. Well worth the trip from Montreal.

I absolutely loved the venue and the show!!! Rufus never disappoints. His soulful voice, amazing musical talent and personality made the evening so special. I felt as if he were singing right to me. The SOPAC venue is a wonderful concert hall to see an event. Parking is soooo convenient and the town has so many fantastic restaurants. This is my second time attending a concert here from the Jersey shore and i am excited about coming to more events in the future. Rufus come back soooooon. Sandy💕

Amazing, so happy to hear 3 of his newer pieces (Old Song, He loved (Hadrian) and from his new show in London). Shocked he did Vibrate (which was my ringtone for years). The sound was very good, and his voice was gorgeous.

The venue is literally perfect, my new favorite to see a concert. Sound impeccable. Lighting, seats, legroom, lobby, concessions, parking. Ridgefield is just what I love in a concert venue. Rufus Wainwright has the most amazing voice in a generation. His multidimensional songwriting skills and genres are incomparable. His show was the thrill of my year, period.

Special place with a lot of requirements: jacket, dinner. Super expensive. The evening ended costing $400 per person. Crazy. Seeing Rufus so close by was, on the other hand, amazing. We were sitting at a table next to the pianist. Unfortunately he only played two of his songs, being one of them completely new. The rest were versions of Kurt Weill’s songs. Would have been great to hear Tiergartten or Hallelujah. Or any of the great songs we wanted to listen instead of those versions. Old audience, not super engaged. Rufus either. He didn’t seem to be comfortable. Definitely didn’t feel like his crowd. Good memory, but wouldn’t do it again.

Rufus is always brilliant. He played guitar and piano and his vocals were strong, resonant and on point as ever. Sparkling stage personality. Only half star off is for forgetting/bungling a few lyrics. It's part of a charming imperfection. His "over the rainbow" was out of this world fantastic! I loved the orchestral arrangements, too. Great mix of old faves, new songs and covers. He sang in at least 3 languages. Appreciate the 2 Leonard Cohen covers. Bravo, Rufus!

As I am an undeniable fan, I decided to fly from NY to see Rufus perform. I love the symphony in general and to see him perform in this way, I knew I couldn't miss it. I've been blessed to get another dose tonight in Utrecht! A night of pure magic, excitement, and of course something only Rufus can bring. Till tonight ❤️

I have been following Rufus now for 3+ years, and this was my 77th show. He never ceases to impress with his complex melodies, poetic lyrics, beautiful voice, witty between song banter and startling good looks. This was a wonderful show, where he brought along his talented half sister, Lucy Wainwright Roche, to open with a few of her own numbers and support his set list on backup.

Such an iconic venue to see the incomparable Rufus Wainwright. A rare solo performance with just a piano, guitar and a devoted audience for the evening. Following the recent 'Poses' anniversary shows his fans were treated to a 'best of' set which included new songs from his forthcoming album. Mr Wainwright entertained the crowd with stories about some of his songs including a touching tale about the influence behind 'Candles' where his desire to light a candle in memory of his late mother, folk singer Kate McGarrigle proved a challenge as the churches had ran out of the sticks of wax. The gravitas of the Cathedral did not damper the mischievous side of Canada's favourite nephew. To the fan's surprise he even performed 'Gay Messiah' preceding it with a rallying call for Northern Ireland to "do the right thing" on gay marriage. He ended the show with classics 'Cigarettes and Chocolate milk, Going to a Town and Leonard Cohen's sublime 'Hallelujah'.

Finally a Rufus show with a (great!) band again! I missed this kind of atmosphere for years. Even though each and every Rufus show is worth while. This night brought me back to the Paradiso shows I’ve seen during the Want tours...

I legend born after this concert. What an incredible band. 5 musicians perfectly coordinated and professionally at the highest level. Rufus, a complete artist beyond the tendencies. A beautiful voice and a precise execution. A ethic and perfect performance. In love with this band

This acoustic show wasn't awesome, and Rufus was in great form, ask usual. The acoustics in this venue were perfect for him. He brought along his always-sweet sister, Lucy Wainwright Roche as his opener. It truly was a very memorable show.

I love this set list and the band is excellent. After 2 concerts in Montreal next week, I’m on a Rufus break until April in Amsterdam. Year after year, Rufus continues to create and develop creative ideas, and this tour is no exception.

“I don’t know what it is, but you had to be there...” When an artist is able to reprise the first songs that launched them into stardom, and they sound as fresh today as they did 20 years ago, you’re not taking a trip down memory lane...you’re learning to love all over again. This was by far my favorite Rufus show - with the potential exception of his tour promoting Poses...before that album became the soundtrack of many walks through many cities. If you have the chance to catch him on this tour, don’t hesitate - buy tickets and relish that soaring, one-of-a-kind voice in all its glory.

Mesmerizing! 🤩 Rufus was amazing! One of my favorite Rufus concerts, of the five I’ve attended since 2007! He in one of the most talented musicians of all time, with the melodic, strong voice of an angel! His live performances are always a special experience!

I have not seen Rufus. So happy and really seem to be enjoying himself in years. His band rocked and his voice guitar playing and piano playing were impeccable. He seemed liked “the boy” who toured poses decades ago. His singing /lyrics of I’m so tired of you America was almost understated than when he wrote it in the GW years. His cover of Joni Mitchell s Both sides now was trance ndent The hair. The costumes he will be remembered. Absolutely brilliant at times, but needed a bit more rehearsal. Tempos were dragging a little as they tend to do with orchestral accompaniment. I would have liked a few more uptempo songs. The venue, staff, and sound quality were excellent.

Seconds after "Hallelujah" finished, a woman shouted from the audience and Rufus said, "What? A medical emergency?!" A man had collapsed and the show stopped for twenty minutes while paramedics arrived...The show finally resumed with Portland's Thomas Lauderdale of Pink Martini joining Rufus onstage with several other area backup singers for "Kitty Come Home".
