About Giulia Malaspina

Giulia Malaspina, from Milan, Italy is a composer, arranger, pianist, and singer who began her musical career at a very early age. She began classical piano study at twelve years old, under the instruction of Metolli Kleva at Accademia Musicale Italiana. She was always passionate about both piano and vocal performance. At the age of fifteen, she began singing at her performances while self-accompanying on the piano. Giulia attended Berklee College of Music’s summer Umbria Jazz Clinic two times, beginning in 2005 where she fell in love with jazz. At age 17, she was accepted into Scuola Civica di Jazz in Milan, directed by Franco Cerri and Enrico Intra. She began to study Ragtime music with Paolo Peruffo and joined the only Italian Ragtime group, “The 88 Club”, with which she performed at numerous theatres and auditoriums all over north Italy for the next three years, recording on their first album in January of 2007. In 2008, she auditioned and was chosen to be a part of an Italian competition called “Premio Mia Martini” at Bagnara Calabra, Italy directed by Mario Rosini, where she performed a self-accompanied original song. The next year, she became part of the Gospel Choir, “The Golden Guys”, directed by Paola Milzani in Brescia, Italy. For the next two years, she performed on numerous stages around Italy, collaborating with international artists such as Sarah Jane Morris, and famous Italian musicians such as Gabriele Comeglio, Tony Arco, and Claudio Angeleri. She received her diploma from Scuola Civica di Jazz with honors in 2010. During that year, she had the opportunity to perform, collaborate, and study with some of Italy’s most prestigious musicians: Franco D’Andrea, Mario Rusca, Paolo Tomelleri, Enrico Intra, Gabriele Comeglio, Alberto Bonacasa, Paolo Peruffo, Marco Vaggi, Lucio Terzano, Tony Arco, Paola Milzani, Daniela Panetta, Silvia Cecchetti, and more. In September she received a scholarship and moved to Boston, MA to begin her studies at Berklee College of Music.
