Is there any line this guy won’t cross?

Alec King is the kind of dude who rips bars about Wisconsin and god-awful ex-girlfriends with the same passion. He considers Curb Your Enthusiasm his “Torah.” He jumps into bathtubs with Porn Stars in music videos that he directs himself. He even went so far as to name his official debut EP, Greatest Hits, Vol. 1, and its successor, Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 (he backed up the latter with some heat). On the ‘gram, you’re just as likely to catch him in the shower as you are to catch him coloring with sidewalk chalk. This sort of personality endeared him to both fans and peers alike. Posting up 10 million-plus streams under-the-radar and attracting acclaim from Dancing Astronaut, he has collaborated with legends such as Biz Markie and modern stars a la Rich The Kid and Kiana Ledé. Not to mention, he did all of this D.I.Y. primarily relying on an in-house team.

In 2020, he floods the game with a series of singles and more surprises.

As he puts it, “There was no plan B.” The Denver native knew music would be his destiny. So, he partied like a rock star and zeroed on his goal. It took a breakup, but he got his head right and started dropping songs in 2017.

“She did me dirty,” he admits. “It was the most intense, sharp pain I’ve ever felt. I feel like I’ll look back on that time as an important obstacle that I needed in order to succeed.”

Success followed with a prolific string of releases. He put numbers on the board with independent uploads cranking out 4 million streams. In 2018, Sony/ATV gave him a publishing deal as he settled on the West Coast. He continued to turn heads, signing to The Heavy Group and Republic Records. Greatest Hits, Vol. 1-2 followed in 2019 as Alec turned up on sold out stages supporting Ledé on tour.

The 2020 single “Dangerous” popped off with over 1 million streams sparked by scorching rhythms and fiery rhymes and also received a ton of radio airplay in his hometown of Denver. He takes aim at Instagram posers asking, “Why these bitches doin’ the most? Typin’ all these stupid inspirational quotes that don’t have anything to do with the post.”

“I wanted to go leftfield and make a record completely different from anything I was hearing at the time,” he says. “I love how it came out.”

He ramped up 2020 with a transformative trip (no, not that kind). He hopped in the car and drove about 100 miles from Los Angeles to Big Bear Lake. During this serene escape, he hit the gas and put down one banger after another, laying down a total five singles: “Way Up,” “Weekends,” “FWHS,” “November,” and “Wassup.”

“The Big Bear trip was huge for me,” he recalls. “I’ll hold those ten days close to my heart for the rest of my life. It was pure tranquility. I turned off my phone for the majority of the week. It was just me, my boys, a beautiful setting, and the music. I was able to tune out the outside world and make the best music of my life.”

However, it only hints at much more to come as Alec crosses every line and flips hip-hop on its head.

“Music is my everything, man,” he leaves off. “It’s my catharsis. It’s a creative space completely owned by me, and I can air out all my shit. It’s not all roses, and it’s not all clouds either.”
