About Monster Soup

Founded in 1992 after the disbandment of their high school metal group, the members of Monster Soup strategically made a decision to change their direction during the rise of the grunge movement. By incorporating former members from the Bayou Pigs and December’s Child, they embarked on a complete rebranding of their music and image. Drawing inspiration from 1970s influences like disco, truckers, Trans Ams, pimps, adult films, Evel Knievel, and Saturday morning cartoons, Monster Soup emerged as a fusion of sex-positive innuendo and pop culture, often referred to as “Sex Rock.”

In a quick manner, Monster Soup rose to prominence within the local Texas underground music scene in the mid-1990s, establishing themselves as influential figures. With consistently high attendance and captivating show themes like “PJ Party Xmas” and “You Ain’t Punk” (which are still ongoing today), the band’s stage presence and music gained them recognition throughout the American Southwest.

Looking ahead a few years, we find ourselves in a time when the music scene in Houston is being recognized as a vibrant and distinctive phenomenon by the creators of the documentary “When We Ruled H-Town.” The band was invited to perform at showcase concerts to promote the film, which inspired them to release the album “Damn I’m Good” in 2012. This album features a mix of classic Monster Soup anthems and fresh material, reaffirming the band’s ability to seamlessly blend punk, stadium rock, and glam.

To this day, Monster Soup continues to defy description while contributing to the future of the rock & roll genre by utilizing a glitter-encrusted ladle to stir a well-stocked pot of influences. The crowd is always excited, engaged, and moving whether it’s punk, funk, metal, or glam because they never know what sound will next come out on top of the mix.
