About The Dance

There are currently 2 bands named with "The Dance" 1) The Dance were a spin off from the band the Model Citizens.

After a brief career and an EP produced by John Cale the Model Citizens split into Polyrock and The Dance. Both drew inspiration from the minimalist movement and Philip Glass produced some of the Polyrock albums.

The Dance had an EP, Dance For Your Dinner, and two LPs, In Lust and Soul Force. The band was funkier than the typical new wave bands of the era and fronted by a sexy Eugenie Diserio.

Drummer Fred Maher also played on early EPS and albums as a member of Bill Laswell's Material around the same time.

The band was:

Eugenie Diserio (keyb, voc)
Steve Alexander (gt, voc)
Thomas Doncker (gt, voc)
Jim Martin (gt)
Louis Watterson (bs, voc)
Robey Newson / Fred Maher (drums)

Releases:
1. Dance For Your Diner (12"EP Go-Go 1980)
2. In Lust (LP Statik 1981)
3. Soul Force (LP Statik 1982)

The Dance also backed a 13 year old girl named Chandra (Oppenheim) on an EP and for some live gigs. Steve Alexander studied with Chandra's father, sculptor Dennis Oppenheim, and he and his band were invited to play a party at Oppenheim's home. Their daughter Chandra liked the band and collaborated with them for the 4 song Transportation EP, released in 1980.

2) The Dance is a finnish indie band
