About Tank Trap
Review from Rock Kent http://www.rockkent.com/2012/10/tank-trap-bite-the-bullet-ep-review Tank Trap are a bluesy grunge band hailing from Gravesend. Their new EP ‘Bite The Bullet’ consists of three tracks that crunch, pulsate and groove into catchy rock licks and grimey riffs. ‘Bite The Bullet’ is an explosive first track, one that sets a bar that many would find hard to follow. The punky, looping, electric riff and distinctive vocals of Ian Day take you to a dingy basement, smoke filling the air, a hundred bodies all pressed together, rolling with the beat, hair flying. Tank Trap seem to have a knack for infectious chorus’s. Both ‘Bite The Bullet’ and ‘Stand Up’s are exceptionally catchy. It seems repetition is the key. However it takes a certain amount of skill to use a few words effectively without the song becoming tedious. Tank Trap seems to have this under control. Perhaps this is due to their progressive compositions, layering several instruments to create something new and exciting. In ‘Stand Up’ a tambourine overlays howling vocals which is reminiscent of old-school country blues and a touch of gospel. This is complimented by the vivid, scrunchy, electric guitar instrumental by Ben Attwood and explosive drumbeats from Sammy Ewen. If you think the use of the tambourine is impressive, the third track ‘Blatantly’ significantly ups the ante. Two minutes thirty seconds into the song, Day overlays the sparky riffs with a slice of Harmonica, creating a country, southern USA feel, like rolling through Mississippi in the back of a pick-up truck. Tank Trap are old-school grungey rock, with a bluesy feel, catchy riffs and smashing beats. You’ve got to love it.
