Kids On a Hill

The Kids were born of a cosmic coincidence in 2009, when a week before the annual Fill the Hill Concert at UMASS Amherst, eight young musicians got together in a UMass dorm room for their first practice. Four days later they took to the stage, and ignited the trove of listeners into dancing fans with their raw energy, love, and group chemistry. The spontaneous show was so exciting that they named themselves Kids On A Hill and have been rocking, funking and jazzing ever since. The new band began jamming on the basketball court on the hill because it was the only place to play, but what were meant to be low-key practices ended up drawing dozens of dancing fans from the nearby dorms. The crowds followed the band to house parties, which led to larger, wilder impromptu shows, and unfortunately to repeated shutdowns by the police. Not to be silenced, Kids On A Hill decided it was time to move indoors, and began tearing it up at venues in the Pioneer Valley and Boston. Now 10 members strong, Kids On A Hill brings a diverse cast of songwriters, instrumentalists, and singers, playing original songs and mashed up covers. Their rock-based sound is a vocal-driven blend of authentic funk and soulful R&B that is guaranteed to get people dancing, laughing, and singing along. Kids On A Hill’s tunes range from soul-funk jammers, to hard ragers; from rock to sensual slow jams. The collective recently headlined the Iron Horse in Northampton, bringing out hundreds on fans to a groovetastic get down. They have also packed the Middle East in Cambridge to capacity, with fans spilling into the street, starting an indoor and outdoor dance party.
