About Conny Vandenbos

Conny Vandenbos was a Dutch singer of so called "luisterliedjes", songs in which a small story is being told.

She was born as Jacoba Adriana Hollestelle in Den Haag. She made her solo debut in the KRO radio show Springplank, where she sang French chansons. After her show at the Belgian Festival of Knokke of 1961, she was given a record deal. In 1964 she got her own television show.

In 1965 she entered the Eurovision Song Festival for the Netherlands. With the song [track]'t Is genoeg[/track] she ended at the 11th place. A year later she had her first hit [track]Ik ben gelukkig zonder jou[/track]. In 1974 she switched to a different record company and had two big hits with [track]Roosje m'n roosje[/track] and [track]Sjakie van de hoek[/track].

In 1976 she won an Edison award and a Golden Harp for the album Zo wil ik leven.

In 1979 she was elected 'Woman of the year' and in 1993 she went gold for her album 14 Grootste Hits Van Conny Vandenbos.

During the 90s she was the hostess of the various radio shows.

Conny Vandenbis died at sunday 7 april 2002, only 2 weeks after hearing she had lung cancer.
