About Janette King
Janette King is a producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and DJ based in Montreal. Janette’s unique sound blends together soulful vocals, upbeat production style, and honest lyrics to create a truly captivating listening experience. With COVID-19 halting tour and release plans, 2020 became a year of creation and exploration for Janette. Single ‘Mars’ came out in Fall 2020 along with a self-produced music video that was made to celebrate black queerness and sexuality. Janette added new elements to her live performance and took part in multiple livestream events such as CBC’s Emancipation Day Concert, POP Montreal, M for Montreal, Santa Teresa Festival, SAT’s Domesicle Festival, NDG Arts Week, & Wavelength Music Festival.
This pandemic year followed up the release of Janette’s debut EP 143 in 2019, which was quickly lauded by Earmilk, Exclaim, CBC, The 405, and multiple other top media outlets. Following the release of 143, Janette King embarked on a month-long North American Tour playing 16 shows across the U.S and Canada and sharing stages with Cupcakke at Montreal’s renowned Fairmont Theatre, Jamilla Woods in Toronto’s Adelaide Hall, and Sudan Archives for San Francisco’s Noise Pop festival. With the success of her debut release, King is poised to take the next step in her career with first full-length album, What We Lost, which came out on June 25th to acclaim from, among others, Complex UK, Consequence of Sound, Bandcamp Daily, Clash Magazine & Hypebeast. The positive energy and creativity that Janette King embodies is what makes her music and shows unforgettable and what will make 2021 a breakout year for her.
