Populace: A Fresh New Sound For The People, By The People You are a band? What kind of music do you play? Funk? R&B? Jazz? Rock? Reggae? The list goes on…It is a question that the members of Populace cannot, and will not rightfully answer, and they are proud of it. So many types of music influence the unique sound that the answer is all of those genres (and more)—but no single one of them. Each show retains its own fresh, unique, and powerful sound. When Populace puts on a show, it is a celebration. Often collaborating with local musicians, it is a night filled with diverse, quality, soulful music. Populace plays throughout the Boston area at well-known venues such as Johnny D’s (come check them out with Gangstagrass on Dec 12) and the Blue Ocean Music Hall, and also gigs in the Providence, RI and Burlington, VT areas. The current lineup consists of the WILD front man/singer Gio, “Baby Fingers” on guitar, Bill T on the sax, and the rhythm section is kept tight with the drum kit, bassist, and hand percussion (congas, bongos etc). Needless to say the groove is tight. The core members of the band have been playing long before Populace existed, writing songs and perfecting the sound. The inception of the name comes from the question, “who is this music for?” The answer is everybody. The music is for us, and the music is for everybody who wants to share it with us, it is for the people. The music brings everybody, of every demographic, culture, and background together.
