About Ryan Andrew
Hello! My name is Ry. I am from Dallas, Texas born and raised. I came upon my love for the drums after seeing my hero Travis Barker tear it apart on the drum kit while playing for Blink-182. I had never seen or heard (with the exception of 90's rock and roll and 80's music such as Journey, Foreigner) music express so much power, emotion, and fun. After experiencing three complete strangers throw down some great motivating music, I knew I wanted in. I wanted to play the drum kit. So began my journey towards my first kit, I learned how to play on trash cans and books and anything I can find to bang on for years, begging my parents for a kit until it finally paid off. So at the age of 9 my wish finally came true, a small, old, green stained 5 piece 1822 Premier vintage kit. With no cymbals till I was 16 and had a job, started playing Sabian B8's. with much practice of tuning (which I absolutely was annoyed by and hated the most) I became insanely good at it and had the beefiest, fattest, tuned drums I've ever tuned. I began playing to all types of alternative rock music such as Creed, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Blink-182, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, all the way across the board to metal (country wasn't really my calling style). A few years later I moved on to an O.C.D.P. Venice series, which with lots of patience saving money, I finally found my future unborn child. My all-time favorite drum kit, though a custom series is in the future for me but would never give up what I worked months for, so many memories playing on my kit. During all of that, Zildjian cymbals came into my life, though I play with a variety of different cymbals, I don't think that needs an explanation. Fast forward several years...past all the rock 'n' roll, punk band, and pop band glory...past all the hours invested in every super hero comics and video game adventures... actually, let's never talk about that, ever... I felt a calling in my life to inspire not only myself, but my fellow family and friends with my music and my band. Wanting to be the person who inspires future musicians. I found myself leaning toward the military when I attended high school. After a few years attending classes, and meeting with recruiters, I understood that was not the role for me. While I loved the idea of serving my country and being successful in a strong career, I found that the military is not for everyone and shouldn't be forced to do something you don't have a passion for. I just didn't have the heart for that. As I was trying to figure out which course to next take in life, a friend suggested I play for a local pop rock band. I thought I would give it a try until the next best thing came along. I am proud to say that I never continued the search to do anything else. It's not how I imagined, but it does satisfy my calling: I am part of a noble cause; I help inspire the people to make music. Ryan Andrew, 22 years old, from Dallas, Texas
