About Voluspa
Voluspa speaks to your subconscious realm: the dreams, the nightmares, the old lovers, the future self, the past self and the holiness inside of you. It haunts and comforts you at the same time.
Voluspa is a Scandinavian prophetess or sibyl. It is also a story about the end of the world through the eyes of the seeress, Kirsten Knick is Voluspa. She spent much of her early years surrounded by the San Francisco Bay, on the backs of horses and in the trees, and buried in books about witchcraft.
She spent a lot of time alone, almost as if a spectator to her life as opposed to an active participant in it. The sounds of her father's Kate Bush, Brian Eno, Neil Young, and Stevie Nicks, John Cale albums were like the score to her story; the drama of drugs and alcohol during her childhood years thickened the plot.
When Kirsten discovered punk rock and romantic love with her high school sweetheart, she finally felt involved in her own existence. The furnace ignited. Her boyfriend taught her how to play guitar, how to laugh, how to fight, how to really drink, how to make love and how to live.
The downside of participating in life is that you allow yourself to experience pain and tumult. Things didn’t get any better for Kirsten on the drugs and alcohol front, but they became tangible, and they morphed into words on paper. They turned into songs. The songs, lovers, jobs, and journeys resulted in a breakdown in New York City after years in London where she played with a plethora of brilliant musicians from the bands Spiritualized to Hot Chip, and more. It was an incredible time, but she found herself only serving as a spectator to her life once again. It was time to put her words and songs into action.
It was also time to get sober. Drugs and alcohol had been stealing the richest nutrients of her craft. And now, after hard-earned time of sobriety, Kirsten is bringing Voluspa and its magical melodies that will leave you feeling exalted and bewitched.
