About C. Moore Music

Many artists can be considered ‘slashies,’ musician/bartender, painter/real estate agent, etc. as we all know that putting food on the table solely through creative endeavors isn’t the easiest thing to do. Detroit native Chris Moore has taken that concept to the extreme, tackling, and succeeding at, more careers than can be explained with a paltry slash. As a teenager Moore’s first public personae was that of a multi-sponsored, skateboard competitor thanks to his wizardry on the skate parks, pools and ramps throughout Michigan, and the mid-west. While concurrently developing his skills as a drummer Moore’s love of extreme activities soon let him to join a band, which just happened to grow to become one of the most pioneering and influential hardcore acts out of the mid-west, Negative Approach. While wildly successful in and around Michigan NA’s life-span was short lived, and after releasing one EP and album on Touch and Go the band members went their separate ways. Over the last few years the band has regrouped for very successful reunion tours in the U.S. and Europe. In the 90’s Moore joined the more rootsy outfit Crossed Wire before focusing on a solo career and recording a number of albums under the moniker Moore & Sons. During that time he also earned the title of Songwriter of the Year at the Detroit Metro-Times and Monthly three years running (1992/1993/1994). Other awards the prolific multi-instrumentalist songwriter has been honored with include the Abe Olman Scholarship (prior winners include John Legend and Chris Tedesco) and the Musicians Atlas/Borders Book award (runner up). In 1997 Moore relocated to Brooklyn where in addition to his musical activities he added yet another dimension to his artistic output, fine artist and printmaker. Moore’s watercolors display a startling acumen for colorful minimalism, and help make his album packaging even more of a personal artistic statement. Over the last decade in New York Moore has collaborated, recorded, and performed with a number of very wide-ranging New York and Detroit based artists, composed and performed in the off-Broadway production of Ugo’s last dance, and reprised his role as drummer with Japan's avant-garde Boredom’s in the 77 drummer Boa-Drum performance . Moore has opened for such notables as Alanis Morrisette, Tori Amos, American Music Club and Iggy and the Stooges. As 2015 dawns Chris Moore will be adding to his solo discography with the release of Harmless Blues, a brand new album of soulful and edgy folk, rock, pop and blues. In addition to showcasing the new material live Moore will also be displaying new artwork at select gallery shows in and around New York, where the party music will of course also be provided by the multi-slashie artist himself.
