About Joe Austin & The Tallahatchies
Joe was raised in a typical, loving Southern household, the oldest of three. He dreamed of playing professional golf and was talented enough to do so . His Mother’s family was always musical and that influenced Joe heavily . He began singing in church with his Mama and little sisters around the time he was 12. During his senior year of high school , he felt the pull of music even stronger and he began to play both fiddle and guitar . Three months later , he graduated from South Pontotoc Highschool and went to Northeast Community College on a scholarship to play fiddle in the school’s band , Campus Country . A year later , Joe heard Nashville calling his name and answered by moving in the middle of the night . He stayed in Nashville , playing gigs , writing songs and doing odd jobs to make ends meet . Several years later , he had enough of the Nashville scene and decided to give Texas a try . He moved with his fiddle , guitar and not much else . He quickly made friends in the Dallas Forth Worth area and began playing around town 4 nights a week .Several years later , he decided to move back home to Mississippi. He landed in Oxford , MS and formed Joe Austin & The Tallahatchies with singer songwriter, Brian Sherwood . They added Wesley Graham , bassist and Jon Harrison on drums to complete the four piece ensemble. The band currently plays throughout the Mid South and are working on their debut album of original music that they have written over the last few years . The album is going to be released sometime in 2024 . Joe’s love for his Mississippi Delta heritage shines through his voice and music .
