About Evan Carydakis - Jazz Musician

It’s been 25 years since Evan first graced the stage as saxophonist. Next year , Evan will commemorate this milestone with a series of single releases commencing with the soulful and rhythmic ‘Groovehouse’, and culminating with the album release of ‘Will I See You Again’.

Inspired by the memory of his parents, ‘Will I See You Again’ celebrates family and introduces us to Evan’s inimitable smooth jazz sound. “These songs are the product of a great family upbringing, and the essence of jazz, pop, rock, R&B, and soul, that we all grew up listening to”.

Born in Melbourne Victoria, Evan first picked up the saxophone at the age of 15. Initially inspired by Branford Marsalis’s ‘Royal garden Blues’, it was his family’s influence and love of all music that set Evan on his stylistic journey.

And along the way, Evan has been lucky enough to learn from some of the greats including Joe Viola, Jerry Bergonzi and Lee Konitz, but above all else Evan holds his time with legendary jazz eductaor Charlie Banacos as “the most influential ” on his instrumental ability.

A four time Arts grant recipient and sought-after festival performer, his current live show titled ‘Boaz and Jachin - The Shape of Things to Come,’ a tribute to John Coltrane, premiered at Mona Foma, which was voted Australia's best contemporary music festival at the 2019 Hepman Awards.
