About Clifford T. Ward
Clifford T.Ward - Born Kidderminster, Worcestershire, 1944.
Emerged from the same West Midlands scene as Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood and Robert Plant. But found success later than them, first in the early 70's on John Peel and Clive Selwood's Dandelion label, then moving to Charisma - with Clive staying as his manager. Hit single Gaye and hit album Home Thoughts From Abroad allowed him to post in his resignation from his school-teaching job and become one of England's more successful singer-songwriters.
His gentle, pastoral songs disguised a brash, in some ways shy and yet, at times, arrogant soul, who hated performing - and so virtually never did. To his detriment, as he would have said.
But he produced a life's work of albums, before his death from MS in 2001.
