About Micro Audio Waves
Micro Audio Waves (MAW) is a Portuguese band based in Lisbon. MAW blends electronic music with pop, rock, experimental music, and many other unnamed elements but with emotion.
The group gained special attention in 2004 when radio host John Peel selected their album "No Waves" as one of the best of the year on his BBC program. The single "Fully Connected" became a regular presence on British airwaves, and MAW became the only Portuguese band with a Peel Session.
With the following album, "Odd Size Baggage," MAW reached a wider audience thanks to the singles "Down By Flow" and "2night U&I". The album has been named one of the best of the year by several Portuguese media outlets.
In 2006 and 2008, the band was awarded the Qwartz Awards for electronic music in Paris, in the categories of Best Album, Best Song, and Best Music Video.
In 2009, MAW teamed up with choreographer Rui Horta to create "Zoetrope," a multimedia concert production that toured several stages in different countries.
In 2024, MAW released its long-awaited new album “Glimmer”, that was the spark for another collaboration with the choreographer Rui Horta. Glimmer has become a multidisciplinary show about the triumph of light over opacity; about bodies inexorably merging with each other and with nature, in a universal embrace at the speed of light. Glimmer combines music, technology, dance, cinema, and a lot of poetry and complicity.
