About ScienZe
Peace, peace! My name is ScienZe. Actually, I was birthed Jamal Monsanto. I took on the moniker “ScienZe” as science is the study of all things and I am the study of hip-hop. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, hip-hop was never really optional for me. It was one of those things that just is (similar to the sunrise and the air we breathe). When I was nine, my older brother introduced me to hip-hop by letting me make beats with him on a Casio keyboard. Since then I've been madly in love with creating masterpieces through speakers. At 11, I made my very first song – one that you will never, ever, hear. Trust me, it’s for your own good. In 2009, I made the decision to turn my passion for music into my career. I started performing at venues throughout New York City and in April of the same year, I dropped my first mixtape, The DopeNESS Vol. 1. My next project was one I found necessary to do as an MC, titled Ode 2 Dilla. Released in February of 2010, this mixtape was a tribute to one of my favorite producers, J Dilla, and went on to be reviewed on Okay Player. The grade the project received inspired me to continue and led to the creation of Her Favorite Subject. This mixtape focused on love, heartbreak and everything in between. Since then, I've released The Phone Tap(e) and Hall Pass. Both projects were featured on an even greater range of blogs including 2DopeBoyz. As a result, I’ve been fortunate enough to be interviewed on All Hip Hop Radio with Will 2 B, The Emilio Sparks Experience with Emilio Sparks and The Bar Exam with Brian Allonce. Outside of music, I believe that education is key and am working on endeavors that will give children and young adults the courage to dream and pursue all that they desire. Currently, I’m the headlining emcee on The Hall Pass Tour; a series of after-school music concerts designed to support the advancement of education and offer a creative space for communities to support their youth. Thank you to those who continue to support me whether you’ve attended a show, downloaded a ScienZe track or shared my music with a friend. You give me the fuel to continue creating. I will always appreciate you and I will not disappoint. Stay tuned. I give the people organic music. Good for any diet. www.scienzeclass.com
