About Crispin Halcrow
Crispin Halcrow brings a fresh face and modern take on the classic romance of a folk troubadour. With a single microphone and acoustic guitar in tow, his gentle, anguished vibrato and haunting instrumental work silences cafes and concert halls alike. Since trading his childhood surroundings of the Lake District for the small city of York, Crispin has quietly built a reputation for intimate, emotional performances, earning gigs with the likes of Billy Lockett, Jordan Mackampa, Adam French and Amy May Ellis.
His debut four track ‘The Things I’ll Keep EP’ is a 17-year-old’s musing on loss, grief and love and has drawn many comparisons to Seth Lakeman, John Smith and Damian Rice. Now 21, this alt-folk artist continues to grow from his roots in venerable songwriting whilst balancing his work as a sideman for artists such as Fawn and Tilly Moses.
His current outfit harkens back to the chamber folk stylings of Nick Drake, with double-bass, strings and vocal harmony underlining the maturity and perspective he has gained through age. ‘The Whisky Songs’ is due to be released this year.
“His voice is sublime, being able to listen to it is such a treat.” – Nell Dunn, BBC Introducing in Cumbria.
“He just completely stopped the room... Look out for him, you’ve gotta see him live, being in the same room as someone who’s doing that is just fantastic.” – John Lipscombe, BBC Introducing in Cumbria.
“One of those songs that stops you in your tracks” – Tom Salmon, BBC Introducing in Cumbria.
