About The Envy Corps

Since 2001, The Envy Corps have been quietly storing their energy and preparing for what is to come. They have been constantly playing shows, writing and rewriting new material, committing and recommitting it to tape, and slowly but surely solidifying their line-up. Along the way, they've garnered the affection of the attentive in the mid-west, as well as many die-hard fans both nationally and internationally.

Their debut album, "Soviet Reunion," was released in 2004 to wide local and national acclaim, climbing up to ..63 nationwide on the CMJ TOP 200 chart and drawing complimentary comparisons to Radiohead, Coldplay, and Switchfoot. Black & White Magazine called them "the most promising band of 2004" and "Soviet Reunion" found its way onto numerous "Best of 2004" lists. Following an east coast tour to support its release, the album is still in rotation on more than 250 radio stations nationwide.

"Soviet Reunion" was the brainchild of founding member and songwriter Luke Pettipoole, who spent over a year with David Yoshimura (bass) in the studio producing and engineering the entire product on their own. Soon thereafter, Scott Yoshimura (drums) was added to the line-up, making way for one final and crucial adjustment. Brandon Darner (formerly of To My Surprise on Roadrunner Records) heard the band's live show, and quickly joined up, rounding out an already musically diverse cast of characters.

In the time since the release of the album, the band have been working tirelessly, and their efforts are paying off. They continue to play shows both in their native Ames, Iowa as well as playing out in the surrounding mid-west states and will be embarking on a south-bound two week tour in December to support their next release, "Lies are Best Told in Pairs".

The preview single, "Rhinemaidens", caught the ears of the program director at Ames radio station 105.1 Channel Q, and was quickly added to regular rotation. "Rhinemaidens" immediately became one of the most requested songs of the year, alongside bands like U2, Modest Mouse and The White Stripes.

As The Envy Corps continue to play out, the energy they have stored is being unleashed on the world, and the public has taken it to heart. As their fan base grows exponentially, even the music industry has taken note. Upon hearing "Rhinemaidens," The Killers' Brandon Flowers and (Pella, Iowa native) Dave Keuning contacted the band through their booking agent to discuss the possibility of touring together. And even beyond that, The Envy Corps have recently teamed with Robert Reynolds in Las Vegas, who also serves as The Killers' representation. The Envy Corps has waited for just the right time to open up. With a new album on the way and critics touting them as a 2005 “Band to Watch", The Envy Corps are ready to take their heartfelt brand of pop and manifold rock sensibilities to the world.
