About Catlike Thieves

With influences as wide as Green Day, The Beach Boys, Wolfmother, AC/DC, James Brown, New Found Glory, Catlike Thieves are inspired by the sights and sounds of life around them and it translates into the bands debut album “Nine Lives” (2011) and current EP singles (2012 & 2013). Formed in 2008, Catlike Thieves, now comprising of Shane Strachan (acoustic and vocals), Dinay Naidu (guitar), JC Stirling (Bass) and Philip Smit (drums) found a market hungry for something new. The band recorded their EP “Cash in Transit” and soon the band was touring the coastline of SA promoting it. The band saw the single “She Smiles” peak at No.3 on PukFM and had campus and in-store stations adding it to their playlists. The band has performed across South Africa and has shared the stages with Stealing Love Jones, Zebra and Giraffe and The Parlotones and performed at consecutive Mr Price Pro concerts (2009/2010), consecutive Splashy Fens (2010/2011), consecutive White Mountain Folk Festival (2008/2009) and Oppikoppi (2012). In 2011, the band recorded the full length studio album “Nine Lives” which included the singles “Maybe Baby” and “Kisses & Cane”. The band filmed and released music videos for both singles and had “Maybe Baby” heating up the MK Top10 charts from the moment it was released. “Nine Lives” will be released for online sale in October 2011. In mid 2012, the band underwent a change from a 4-piece band to a 3-piece band, the change inspired the remaining band members and they headed into studio to record the single “Real Dreams”. Launch in mid October, the single has been playlisted across radio stations including 5fm, 2Oceans, MFM and numerous in-store stations. The band are currently working on the follow up single and video for “Drunken Love Song” which will be released to the market in early 2013. *** “They cross-pollinate the genres of old-school rock” – goingplaces.com “They have a very unique and explosive acoustic/rock mix, lots of energy, use of the stage and amazing connection with an appreciative audience” – mrpricepro.com “Found guilty of stealing the hearts of fans nationwide!” – nearlyillicit.co.za “Great determination to what they love and get their music heard is channelling them to new heights” – six-love.co.za Catlike Thieves consists of: Shane Strachan - Vocals and guitar Donovan Woolridge - Drums Jon-Claude Stirling - Bass (mostly) Dinay Naidu - Lead guitar
