About Negative Measures
Coming through with a brutally raw interpretation of hardcore and punk, Negative Measures started playing music together with three aims; play fast, hard punk music, deliver a powerful live show and shine an angry light on political wrongs.
The band quickly gained a fierce reputation in their hometown of Brighton (UK) for the frantic energy of their live show and the pessimistic-spun-positive nature of their songs.
In 2016 the band released their debut EP “Demotivational Speeches” (produced by Elastica and Ride producer Marc Waterman) through their own Big Word Records to acclaim, celebrating the release to over 100 faithful fans with a show at Brighton Youth Center, a venue where the band had spent their early days putting on gigs and refining their live performance.
Drawing comparisons to the likes of Black Flag, Bad Brains and Knocked Loose, the strength of “Demotivational Speeches” enabled Negative Measures to play shows with names such as While She Sleeps, Stray From The Path and Brutality Will Prevail and festivals such as Manchester Punk Festival and Mammothfest, allowing them to continue to build their vicious live reputation.
In March 2018 the band released the much anticipated follow up to “Demotivational Speeches” with EP number two: “The Waste Time Continuum”. Showing a slight departure from the punk ferocity with which they built their name, “The Waste Time Continuum”
showcases the bands heavier side, combining slower tempos with heavier riffs whilst still retaining the punk roots which form the foundation of their sound. The Waste Time Continuum demonstrates Negative Measures’ experimental nature, growth as songwriters, and a stubborn refusal to let themselves fit into a singular music box.
