Andrew Cyrille is a Jazz icon, he played and recorded with many jazzlegends, including Coleman Hawkins, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Sun Ra, Freddie Hubbard, Red Garland and many others. In 1964 he started a collaboration with Cecil taylor that lasted eleven years. During that period he settled his name as a highly influential drummer. Andrew recently turned 75, and playing better than ever. Laurens Smet, Seppe Gebruers (winner Sabam Awards, 2014) and Viktor Perdieus are members of the improvisation collective ‘Ifa y Xango’. The band won the ‘Young Jazz Talent’ contest in 2011 and released the year after their debut album ‘Abraham’. The album was selected as ‘Best Debut Release 2013’ by the renown jazzmagazine ‘New York City Jazz Record’ (US). Two years ago the three Belgian musicians invited Andrew Cyrille for a concert on the Jazz Middelheim festival.
