About Brad Shirley Music

Here is Brad’s Story: Brad began singing in middle school and continued to sing throughout high school at Hueytown High School. “At 15, I had never played a guitar. My buddy Lee could rip one up, and I wanted to be able to do that! I still can’t do what he does, but I learned the basics” –Brad. He read/studied tabls of his favorite songs and checked out a chord diagram book from the local library, and taught himself how to play. By the way, the book was never returned to the library… He and his buddies, including Hollis Godsey (his bassist) jammed in high school and would help encourage one another to get better. This went on for several years and when college life got here, the music went on hold, well, kind of. Brad continued to play his old guitar and sing just for fun. At parties, which was often and many, he would pull the guitar out and play songs he had written (some about his friends for fun), and entertain…something he loves to do more than anything. Fast-forward to 2007. Brad was the victim of a hit-n-run by a drunk driver. Being air-lifted to University Hospital South Alabama, he suffered a shattered pelvis and several lacerations to his face (from the windshield). After that, life changed. He settled down. He then became an award winning Account Executive in Medical Device Sales. Fast-forward again to 2011. Having wrestled in high school and with the growing popularity of mixed martial arts (MMA), Brad began a training regimen to take a fight. He had a little experience from the party days and had fully recovered from the car accident, so he said why not!? So, he trained for a couple of years, and in those 2 years, had 4 fights and obtained a 3-1 record. In the summer of 2013, he decided to hang up the gloves, and pick that ‘ole string box’ back up and started playing his guitar more than he ever had. He had always written music/songs for fun, but decided to take his talents and go as big as he could with it. He wrote “We We’re Crazy”, “Like a Country Boy” and “Turn You All The Way Up” first. He went and recorded them and re-established a great friendship with studio owner and guitarist, Eric Hurt (now, his guitarist). The writing continued. Within 6 months, the 9 songs on the debut album “All The Way Up” were given life. The initial intention was to write these songs and pitch them in Nashville to become a song-writer, but the entertainer was dying to come out. About the same time, Hollis (his bassist) had just returned from several years of touring the country with another band. The stars were aligning perfectly for a band. “Ya know, this is always something I’ve wanted to do. The timing just wasn’t right before. The timing is right now and I am having the time of my life. The most important thing to me is that we all have fun and make music that people love and feel… and when our fans leave one of our shows, they feel entertained”-Brad. Now, the album is out and he is performing with the band throughout the Southeast… “Like a Country Boy”. Twitter: BradleyShirley Instagram: BradShirleyMusic YouTube Blog: "Turn Up with Brad Shirley"
