About Alárìíyá
Party people of the world – get ready for the sounds of Alárìíyá! Olugbade Okunade aka GP Saxy, former trumpet player from Fela & Seun Kuti’s famous Afrobeat orchestra, Egypt 80; has created his own band Alárìíyá. For the past 14 years Okunade performed with Egypt 80 on the world stage at WOMAD, Bluesfest, Cochella, the Jools Holland show, Montreal Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz Festival and many more. Alárìíyá meaning ‘party people’ in Yorùbá, presents the rich musical culture of Nigeria to audiences across the globe. Nigeria’s multi-talented trumpeter, mastered his skills with the band that originally served Afrobeat to the world. This accomplished musician is now ready to take his message to stimulate the mind and infiltrate the soul. Alárìíyá awakens your spirit with uplifting sounds. Live performances include Studio 5 Live on Stani Goma’s show Flight 1067 to Africa on PBS Radio, Moomba & Queen Victoria Night Markets. Inspired fans can not keep still as Alárìíyá gets them dancing with exotic vibes and rhythms. Afrobeat at its finest in this brand new lineup of musicians; Olugbade Okunade on trumpet, Martin Zakarov on Sax, Tony Priest on Drums, Sayako Nakagawa on Keyboard, Lachlan Stuckey on Guitar, Elizabeth Obando on Bass and Justin Stanford on Percussion.
