About The Greater The Risk

"The Greater The Risk is one of those bands that flawlessly embodies the DIY spirit in a way that many claim to, but few actually do. Their name says it all--acknowledges that hardships that come from band life, from taking on a project almost destined for failure, and laughs in its face, taking everything in stride."--Purevolume.com “I was a semester out from graduating college and I was in an awkward spot since I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life. I had a catalogue of song ideas and no where to go with them, but I knew i wanted to play music.” Taking advice from several friends in the local music scene, guitarist Ashley Drewes began a dream in early 2010 to start a band that solved her ever-pressing need to quench her musical expression. With her new ideas in hand she began looking for others to help fill out a band lineup. In June 2010, the newly formed band played its first show and released a self-titled EP, which included three completed songs from Drewes’ catalogue of riffs and melodies. They finished 2010 with some regional touring along the east coast. For the next EP, they knew they wanted to take their songs to the next level. After speaking to a few producers they decided to work with Bryan Russell (Envy On The Coast, Straylight Run, The Narrative) In January 2011, the band stepped into the studio and recorded five new songs. That same month they were featured in Alternative Press’s top unsigned artist of the month section. The Greater The Risk released "Say What You Never Said" in October, 2011 to mostly positive reviews, as most pointed out its strong maturation in sound, overall structure and song quality. While Drewes is proud of what she has accomplished in such a short time (two top singles on Purevolume's charted list, a Van's Warped Tour date, and two east coast/midwest DIY tours in the books) she knows it isn't enough. TGTR (or TAGTAR as you might hear a toothy-grinned Drewes tell you it's pronounced,) is ready for more in 2012. "I just love making music, and I hope you like what you hear!" Pop Rock band from Richmond VA who loves Chipotle almost as much as they love music.
