About Kristen Toedtman

With sultry, powerful vocals and an every-woman appeal, Kristen Toedtman gets the room singing along with her soulful bluesy-pop songs and her choir of women. Toedtman plays with her band the Hi 5 in Baltimore and surrounding cities and leads her choir from the piano in Los Angeles (Hotel Cafe, Bootleg Theater), New York City (Rockwood Music Hall, Pianos) and more. She also lends her voice to movie soundtracks (Frozen, Big Hero 6, Godzilla, etc) while performing regularly with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and the LA Phil (Hollywood Bowl, Disney Hall), with whom she toured Europe in spring 2013. Toedtman is known as side woman to The Brendan Hines on both his releases (Good For You Know Who, 2007; Small Mistakes, 2013) - think Stevie Nicks to Tom Petty - and played bass and sang sweetly on tour with him opening for the Milk Carton Kids. Kristen hails from Baltimore, where she regularly returns to collaborate with Baltimore musicians including the Baltimore Afrobeat Society, of which she is a founding member. In 2004, she drove Route 40 to LA with friend and frequent collaborator Brendan Hines and is featured on both of his releases. Kristen returned to Baltimore over the winter to record the first side of the record with bandleader Chris Pumphrey. Come spring, she dove in at the Chalet Studios in LA with Al Sgro (Joe Purdy, Meiko) and a host of Hollywood friends to craft the second side of Limbo. She'll tour the east coast this June in support of the first half of the record. This record follows her first EP, The Fall, released in 2010 and available on iTunes, Amazon, at shows and on this very website. In addition to her solo project, Kristen sings regularly on Hollywood film scores, composes music for choirs (most recently for site-specific works with artist Lita Albuquerque) and is the music director of the St. Michael & All Angels church in Studio City. Bonnie Raitt meets Alicia Keys singing your love songs.
