About Mica Millar
“The future of British Soul music is in very safe hands” says Jazz FM’s Head of Music, Christian Bragg - a powerful sentiment and one that has been universally echoed by tastemakers and fans alike since the release of Mica Millar’s debut album ‘Heaven Knows’ in June this year.
Self-written, arranged and produced and independently released on Mica Millar’s record label ‘Golden Hour Music’, ‘Heaven Knows’ explores themes of human nature, spirituality, love, oppression, inequality and empowerment, drawing inspiration from a plethora of vintage soundscapes, most notably, soul, blues, gospel and jazz.
After being featured on the front cover of the iconic Blues & Soul Magazine last month who credited her as “a star with intense emotional sincerity”, Mica’s brand new album has quickly picked up glowing acclaim with five star reviews from the likes of The Daily Express, The Daily Mirror and Echoes Magazine; the latter, championing the record as their “Soul Album of The Month” as well featuring it as one of the ‘Best Soul albums of 2022’. Mica will feature on their cover in the next issue.
Mastered at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in late 2021, Mica’s distinct vision is one that’s earned her renowned credibility within the industry and it’s her creativity, drive and attention to detail that has made ‘Heaven Knows’ the album it is - a timeless collection of modern soul showcasing a confident new artist, quickly establishing herself as a new and unique voice in British Soul music.
Amassing almost half a million streams within a month of its release, widespread acclaim for ‘Heaven Knows’ comes from champions at radio including Soul tastemakers Trevor Nelson (BBC Radio 2), Craig Charles (BBC 6 Music) and Victoria Jane (BBC Radio 1) with a feature for single ‘Preacher Man’ on Tom Robinson BBC 6 Music ‘Introducing Mixtape’, a spot play for ‘Flashlights’ on BBC Radio 2’s Good Morning Sunday, a live session on Clive Anderson’s ‘Loose Ends’ on BBC Radio 4 and interviews and live session across ITV Granada Reports, BBC Manchester, London, Scotland and many more.
Jazz FM also became one of Mica’s biggest supporters, making ‘Heaven Knows’ their “Album of The Week'' alongside a filmed live session and ongoing playlist support for single and ‘Track of The Week’, ‘Girl’, title track ‘Heaven Knows’ and Mica’s latest offering ‘Flashlights’. The latter shooting straight onto the A List.
The name ‘Mica Millar’ is also making its way across the pond, landing A List slots at Amazing Radio USA as well as airplay across specialist Soul stations and highly sought after editorial playlist spots with Spotify and Vevo USA.
Mica will perform two very special UK headline shows to officially launch ‘Heaven Knows’ at the capital's famous Jazz Cafe London on Saturday 17th September and her hometown’s iconic Albert Hall Manchester on Sunday 25th September.
