About Dustin Devine and The Real Deal

Dustin Devine is a native of western Oklahoma. His momma used to whip him with a Hank Williams LP, he cut his teeth on country music and shortly thereafter started his performing career at the tender age of 3 singing “real” country music on the stages of fairs and shows. He has appeared and performed on the Oklahoma Opry as well as The Cumberland Highlanders Show on RFD-TV. While in Oklahoma he performed with The Jason Savory band, Native Bluestem, and numerous “Red Dirt” musicians in and around Stillwater. A talented multi-instrumentalist, Dustin plays harmonica, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, acoustic and electric guitar. He holds down rhythm guitar and sings lead vocals in the bluegrass band Camptown as well. An equine surgeon by day, he spends his free time building guitars, fly-fishing and tying, bow building and playing music that he loves. Doug Elrick is one of the finest songwriters and bluegrass musicians this side of the Mississippi. He is a member of the renown bluegrass band High Plains Tradition, and Kantankerous where he sings and plays mandolin and guitar. He plays fiddle for "The Real Deal" and sings lead and high harmony. Doug also is a top luthier as well. He has made several mandolins, guitars and fiddles. When he's not behind the microphone, he can be found behind the wheel of a fire engine where he works for the City of Denver as a full-time fireman. Kenny Pabst is the heartbeat of the band with his rock solid bass. His work on bass locking in with the kick drum keeps your feet on the dance floor. Kenny, like Doug is also a member of the bluegrass group High Plains Tradition. He lends his vocal talents there and with The Real Deal as well. By day Kenny works at Denver International Airport and dreams of taking his 1957 Greyhound Bus, (converted to a motor coach) and just hitting the blue highways and seeing the real America someday. An extremely versatile musician, Ernie Martinez plays just about every instrument that has strings, and more. He started out in the late 1960's playing guitar and drums. Then, when Foggy Mountain Breakdown and The Dueling Banjos came out, he was inspired to learn 5-string banjo. Soon afterwards, he took up the mandolin, resophonic guitar, and pedal steel. He started his first bluegrass band in 1971, while he was in high school. He also plays fiddle, piano, and bass. He has played in numerous bluegrass bands since high school and is one of the leading go-to sidemen in Colorado. Ernie is also a highly sought-after studio musician and has played on over 150 albums as a studio musician in both Colorado and Nashville, including those of Tom Paxton, John McEuen, Jimmy Ibbotsen and many more. He is in demand as an album producer, song-arranger, and co-writer. He holds down the rhythm section for The Real Deal keeping the dance floor hopping. Chuck Tinsley plays guitar and sings baritone vocals. His musical influences include Kid Congo and The Pink Monkeybirds, Miles Davis, Mozart, Unknown Hinson, Bill Monroe, and The Yawpers. When invited to be a member of The Real Deal, Chuck lept at the offer saying, "this is a great opportunity to perform some of the best music ever written." So he made the switch to Telecaster and is now enjoying the challenges of providing twang for The Real Deal. The Bakersfield sound (as pioneered by guitar greats Don Rich and Pete Anderson) is his current musical inspiration. Jeff Rady is from Denver, Colorado and has been on the Colorado Music Scene for 16 years, not only as pedal steel player, but as a guitarist, guitar instructor at Swallow Hill, and an arranger. Jeff has been in countless bands with styles ranging from big band jazz to alt. country. As a member of many Colorado staples like CJP and The Burning Angels, Strange Americans, and Patrick Dethlefs, he uses his taste and sensitivity as a musician to lift up any ensemble he joins.
