About Guonka
Juan Carlos Fernández, also known as "Guonka", is a 24-year old DJ, Producer and Audio Engineer born in San Jose, Costa Rica, who currently resides in London, United Kingdom.
he name "Guonka" originates thanks to his nickname "Juanca", which was commonly confused by foreigners so much that he decided to use his incorrect pronunciation “won-ka" as his official artistic alias.
Being strongly influenced by music from video games, 80's, Rock, Hip-Hop, and Heavy Metal makes his DJ sets are unpredictable, full of energy and usually the heaviest of the moment. He is mostly represented by the sounds of Dubstep, Drum & Bass, and Garage/Bassline.
In just his short career, Guonka has performed in world-renowned venues such as Ministry of Sound Club, EGG London, Electric Brixton, and many more ... sharing the night with artists such as Flux Pavilion, Delta Heavy, Feed Me, A-Track , Sam Divine, Tough Love, MJ Cole, Secondcity, Josh Butler, Doorly, and many other names to mention. In Costa Rica, Guonka has performed several times in venues such as Club Vertigo, Antik, Vavel, and in 2018 made his debut at the renowned festival "Chepe Joven" with an estimate crowd of 25,000 people.
Guonka has also appeared in several of London’s well-known radio stations such as Reprezent, Select Radio UK, The Beat London, and House 559 Music. He has also hosted his own radio show "Nightfall Sounds" at EGM Electro.
Taught and strongly supported in his productions by Tony Friend, former member of the London group “Modestep”, Guonka releases several singles and EP’s such as “Hypnotise (Guonka Remix)”, “Da Way”, and his debut EP “A Cup Of Tea” through London label “Groundwork”, “Fatstep Records” and “Teknofonic Recordings from Paris and New York. Recently he released his “Departures” EP with Canadian label “Westwood Recordings” which includes singles “Believe” and “Mortal Feat. The Fools Heart Club Band”.
