About Pete Lanctot and The Stray Dogs
“It seems New York is experiencing another country/folk revival...one of the most authentic voices in this happening scene belongs to Pete Lanctot” - Mike Olinger, The Vinyl District.
Frontman and songwriter Pete Lanctot leads his amorphous cast of Stray Dogs with avant garde fiddler, Ginger Dolden. Pete and the Stray Dogs takes form as an acoustic duo, as an electric five piece, and everything in between. Lanctot’s narrative songwriting has been likened to artists such as The Carter Family, Townes Van Zandt and “a backwoods Nick Cave,” and is firmly rooted in blues, folk, country, and experimental music, offering pinhole views into the lives of characters that range from real to mythological.
No Sign of Love or Farewell, the band’s 2016 debut full length album was hailed by New York Music Daily as “A series of richly lyrical character studies among the down-and-out” and by Audiofuzz as “Songs that seem to have percolated out the swamps of Louisiana or from the deep hills and valleys of Virginia and Kentucky.”
Throughout the album the band weaves together country waltzes, Bo Diddley beats, dancehall two steps, nocturnal swamp rock, and old school gospel throughout the record, creating a musical tapestry rooted in the American musical tradition. No Sign of Love or Farewell, is a follow up to the band’s 2015 EP, Caledonia, both recorded in Nashville, TN and produced by Chris Donohue (Emmylou Harris, Iris DeMent, Lucinda Williams, Daniel Lanois, Gillian Welch).
Formed in 2012, Pete and the Stray Dogs is regularly touring throughout the United States and maintains an active performance schedule in New York and the Tri-State area.
