About Coast & Ocean
Coast & Ocean is Alex Johnson and he is struggling with categorization.
Alex is an inspired, experimental, multi-instrumental, songwriter, rapper musician who incorporates loop pedal rhythms, beat boxing and acoustic percussion with a mix of soulful melodic vocals… making him a stupid cool and talented young artist.
After this Soul/Rnb/HipHop/PoeticSurfRap artist released his latest EP "Doobies Girl" he journeyed out on tour across Australia/Europe/Thailand/Cambodia returning back home for his “Lindsay Lohan” single release tour in the latter part of 2017.
He is the type of artist who makes his audience feel like he is singing personally to them, whilst still making his audience feel like they are a part of something; something big and something meaningful and something important. One could attribute this to his ability to freestyle, drop random beats and be super sexy and slick whilst doing so.
triple j Unearthed staff reviews:
"This dude's got something. It's chill and I could see appealing to both coastal knockabouts and fans of sensitive rap" - music director David Ruby Howe
"You're like an Australian Ed Sheeran - I love the way you combine genres to create something distinctive" – Claire Mooney, and
"These acoustic sensitive-guy feels got me all tingly" – Jimmy Russell
- resulted in inclusion in the Unearthed charts, Best New Music Playlist on Spotify, Unearthed Radio and Featured Artist.
Coast & Ocean has toured with Lyall Moloney (who himself toured with Sticky Fingers, Tash Sultana) and supported Ty Dolla $ign, William Singe, Daniel Champagne, Hein Cooper, Jye Whiteman, Dylan Joel, Lime Cordiale, Tyne James Organ, Kim Churchill, NZ’s Albion and more.
In 2017 he played Surfana Festival in Netherlands alongside AUS's Caravana Sun, Ziggy Alberts, Kallidad and many more. This year at Surfana Festival 2018 he will be joining AUS’s Lyall Moloney and Kava Kings on his return to Europe Tour.
Inspired by depressing life moments and hilarious persona changes, Alex will change every perception you thought an acoustic composer was capable of and shatter it. To summarise Coast & Ocean in three words, he is honest, cheeky and witty.
