About Bigtopp

Keep your eyes peeled for Bigtopp in 2017 as they tear up the UK with bands and friends alike. Long may the Bigtopp party continue! The early years saw the band supporting the likes of The Skints, Streetlight Manifesto, Zebrahead, Neville Staples, and Sonic Boom Six to name a handful - racking up over 500 gigs in the process. In 2012 Bigtopp won the Portsmouth Road To Blissfields event and The Music League, leading to slots at Blissfields Festival and a main stage slot at Lounge On The Farm supporting Emile Sandé, as well as taking priority slots at Alresford, Off The Tracks, Onionfest and more. To complete the year, Bigtopp also enjoyed receiving airplay from BBC Introducing and played alongside Mad Caddies in Bournemouth. The band’s previous album ‘Mischief’ - released in 2013 - remains a staple ska diet for the dedicated Topper. Their art has been received with open arms by promoters, musicians and music lovers alike. On the underground scene it led to performances at BoomTown Fair, One Love Festival and WTFest to name but a few. Bigtopp’s 2014 started supporting the RX Bandits at the highly reputable Wedgewood Rooms to a sold out crowd. Following this, the group scored high profile festivals including; Bestival, Isle of Wight, V-DUB, Blissfields & No Man's Land. Alongside this summer of festivities, Bigtopp hit the UK for 10 dates with IOW based reggae band The Ohmz, and visited Europe for their first time (shortly followed by their second) reaching France, Belgium and Luxembourg. In and around spending time travelling to and from festivals, the group recorded their second album at Middle Farm studios under the watchful eye and ear of Mr James Bragg. The new album, entitled 'Next Stage' - an eclectic LP of upbeat ska and reggae-rocking anthems - was launched to raucous approval following a successful crowd-funding campaign. To celebrate the launch, Bigtopp embarked on a UK launch tour over Easter playing with the likes of Less Than Jake, Tree House Fire and Bare Jams. They also graced stages at Isle of Wight Festival, BoomTown Fair and Secret Garden Party (as well as playing a few other choice festivals for those in the know). The scene is buzzing but it’s been lacking something. It’s been craving that blend of upbeat, energetic music and intelligent lyricism; it’s been wanting a 3-piece horn section and deep bass sound. Bigtopp are there to provide it. The band’s objective is very simple: get people dancing; get people smiling; get people's knees up.
