About David Sneddon
David Sneddon is a London based Glaswegian singer/songwriter who had a no1 hit in the UK in January 2003 with 'Stop Living The Lie' after he entered and won the BBC's reality TV show Fame Academy in 2002. He went on to have a further 2 top twenty hits and a no5 album entitled 'Seven Years - Ten Weeks'.
Having tasted fame and fortune and life as a celebrity, in October 2003 David made the shock announcement that he wanted to quit his career as a pop artist in order to concentrate full time on his songwriting. However, just six months later he made a low-key comeback as the lead-singer of indie-pop/rock band The Sham. Although they were together for less than a year the band achieved some success, releasing a single, 'Goodbye Baby' in October 2004 which, albeit briefly, topped the 7digital download chart ahead of U2 and Keane, and they appeared as one of the headline acts at the 2004/5 Hogmanay celebrations in Aberdeen, playing to a crowd of 40,000 along with Deacon Blue and Hugh and Cry.
Although never officially announcing a split, in the spring of 2005, the individual members of The Sham went their separate ways, pursuing individual projects and David returned to his 'day job', working full-time as a songwriter for other artists. To date, his most notable collaborations include: co-writer on international hit 'The Message' for critically acclaimed UK soul singer Nate James, and more recently with young 'up-and-coming' artist Julian Perretta who has now signed to Columbia Records and has recently toured with Mark Ronson.
David still performs as a solo artist periodically, mainly at venues in the London area and is a regular at the Bedford, Regal Room and Troubadour.
In January 2007 he released a download EP entitled 'White Noise' - featuring brand new acoustic studio tracks - which, in David's own words: "Sold a sh*tload more than I thought it would". Since its release, the EP has continually hovered in and around the top 20 of the 7digital indiestore chart, reaching the no1 spot in Jan 2007 and again early in 2008.
Early in 2007 David promoted the EP on the 'Lads Tour' - a mini-tour of gigs across the South of England with fellow singer/songwriters Jake Hook and Chris Townsend. The following August, he performed a series of sellout gigs at the 2007 Edinburgh Festival, as well as an impromptu appearance as a street busker with the Martians, the band he left five years earlier in 2002 prior to entering Fame Academy.
Throughout 2008 David has been writing, playing piano and gigging with Dave Gibson - another young singer/songwriter from Glasgow. In October 2008 the two of them performed at the ScotsCare charity gig at the Bedford in London, alongside fellow Scots Isla St Clair and Ally Mcerlaine (guitarist with Texas) and his new band Treasure Tones.
