About Serial Killer Smile

Coming together in Perth in 2009, Serial Killer Smile spent a little over a year writing their material and solidly rehearsing their show before playing live to West Australian audiences. Their debut shows: A baptism of fire, supporting one of the country’s most solid touring bands, Full Scale Revolution on their west coast run. Fast forward the next eighteen months, filled to the brim with tour supports for 3 national touring bands, countless rocking local shows and a sold out launch for debut single “The Irrepressible” and Serial Killer Smile are gearing up to launch their debut EP, “The Elephant in the Room” on 17th February 2012 at The Rosemount Hotel. It was one of the biggest launches the venue had seen for some time, with a 300 strong crowd of converts. When it came to crafting their debut release, The Elephant in the Room, Serial Killer Smile wanted to ensure it would be the best it could be. The band flew into Australia one of Singapore’s best producers, Roland Lim, to assist in the tracking and backing vocal arrangements of the EP. Mixing duties were given to Anthony Cormican at Crank Studios in Northbridge as the band had been seriously impressed with his previous work with diverse acts such as Birds Of Tokyo, Bob Evans and Nathan Gaunt. Anthony also lent his skills as a string composer to the opening track “The Baker”. Mastering was delivered by powerhouse mastering engineer Leon Zervos at Studios 301 who has provided knockout masters for Aerosmith, Dream Theater & Midnight Oil to name a few. Distributed nationally through Firestarter Distribution, ‘The Elephant in the Room’ was released to critcal acclaim. With 37 Radio stations and music media around Australia getting behind the release. “Their melodic sound attacks the fringes of metal and perches within the grooves of hard rock, and it is mesmerising.” -TheDwarf.com.au “Impressive. Soft, haunting vocals draped over heavy, melodic and off kilter rhythms has proved very addictive and refreshing. 4/5″ -Joel Hargreaves, Sputnikmusic.com “Raw, uninhibited and overtly passionate… The Elephant In The Room marks a kick-ass beginning for Serial Killer Smile. 4/5″ -Luke Creely, Buzz Magazine Australia “Great track! (The Irrepressible) I love diggin in here to find such cool stuff as this, very impressive and some seriously cool melodies and hooks. A band to keep an eye on. Definitely for fans of Karnivool, Cog even Katatonia. Hornz – Haugy \m/ ” -Andrew Haug, Racket, JJJ (Unearthed Song Review) From there Serial Killer Smile went about taking the live show to the people, performing on a string of dates as long as your arm. The highlights were a packed out Amplifier Bar in support of Chaos Divine, a spot on Melbourne’s ‘Creepshow Festival’ at the Espy Hotel, touring WA with Sydney’s Breaking Orbit and a spot on national touring festival, ‘Progfest’ in Perth. 2012 could not have been any better for the band. Whether you’re listening at home or at a live show Serial Killer Smile greet you with a violently boiling melting pot of heavy off kilter drum rhythms, angular yet groovy guitar riffs and some sweet vocal melody to tie it together. The kind of songs you can lose yourself in. Serial Killer Smile is music for the thinking person, who demands more from their music than feeble metaphors about love and a beat that numbs you like an anaesthetic.
