Brother Oliver

Brother Oliver is a Greenville, South Carolina band whose fingerprints are quietly embedded across more than a decade of the modern entertainment landscape. Founded by Andrew P. Oliver alongside his brother, Stephen Oliver, and known for their psychedelic folk-rock stylings, the group has been a consistent pioneer of both genre and format.

Emerging in the early wave of the Southeast’s brewery and grassroots touring circuit, Brother Oliver didn’t just ride that movement, they helped define it. Their relentless touring and energetic live performances made them a staple of the circuit as it grew from a niche scene into a national proving ground for independent artists.

Over the years, they’ve shared stages with legendary acts including The Steve Miller Band, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, and of Montreal, while earning critical recognition from outlets like HuffPost, American Songwriter, and PopMatters. Their music has found its way into film and television through placements on HBO, PBS and more.

In 2019, the band was named the inaugural “Artist of the Year” at the Upstate Music Awards, a milestone year that also saw August 30th officially declared “Brother Oliver Day” in their hometown of Greenville. It was both a peak moment and a public acknowledgment of the cultural footprint they had already established.

Today, Brother Oliver stands as a rare example of endurance in an industry built on short cycles: an act that has evolved, weathered shifts in sound and scene, and maintained a devoted following while many of their contemporaries have faded. Most recently, the brothers were the subject of the documentary How To Break A World Record, which details their ambitious attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest marathon mandolin performance (now streaming on Apple TV and Prime Video).
