About Scott Shea Songs

SCOTT SHEA A year since the release of Let It Storm (considered one of the top 25 releases of 2015 by New Canadian music blog) Scott Shea has been in LA and Toronto recording “Pendulum”, a stylistic shift he feels more truthfully represents him, with a title deriving from his all or nothing, now or not now, personality. “I feel like my songwriting is on the up swing and Producer Bill Bell (long time friend, musical director and guitar player for Jason Mraz and Tom Cochrane) gave it that extra push. We captured a raw energy, a first rush of blood, that exposed the honesty in the songs and me”. From the strong intro of Crazy Love, to the last song (Gone) Too Young, a haunting ballad Scott wrote for a best friend that was killed in his teenage years and the infant daughter he left behind… this record is transparent honesty. After his first listen to the demos, producer Bill Bell started putting together a “dream team” he thought would do justice to the songs - Kenny Aronoff (drums), James “Hutch” Hutchinson (Bass) and Chris Joyner (Keys). “Similar to building a house, the songs are your foundation and the bed tracks are the framework… these guys nailed it! The framework supports everything and when it’s straight, level and firmly put together, all the other added elements come together much easier and last much longer. So too with the songs, when the tempo and groove is nailed into place, it leaves a solid record to hang your hat on!!” It’s been a long gravel road for Scott. After humming through the halls of high school, busking on the streets of Toronto, the boardwalks of Ocean Grove and Asbury Park in New Jersey as a teenager, Scott took a step up. He started taping microphones to pool cues, pool cues to chairs and singing to 5 -15 people at a time in clubs across the country, he then took a step out. Scott went backpacking around the world for close to a year, climbing in the Himalayas, diving in the Red Sea, submerged in the crowds of Cairo and the colors of India, from desert to desert, sea to sea, he was ready to go home. Unfortunately he didn’t have a home, so why not start up a custom home building company. That’s what he did! His creative outlet evolved into building custom homes including his own, all the while leaving lyrics penciled on random 2x4’s inside the walls. He married the women he travelled with and together they raised a family. In 2008 the death of his father Red Shea (guitar player for Gordon Lightfoot), inspired Scott to re-evaluate his life choices and move his family across the country to Canada’s West Coast. Then Scott took a leap forward. He started writing full time in September 2013 and has just finished his second solo Album, Pendulum. This past year, Scott delivered strong live performance over 55 dates and sold out shows In support of his first album Let It Storm. Highlights included, live TV and radio broadcasts, NXNE, Gordon Lightfoot tribute shows and Stamped City Sessions. He ended up in New York’s Central Park in summer 2015 playing for a crowd of 6000 people, opening for the Carole King Musical – Beautiful. Early this year, New York City invited Scott back, he performed solo to a sold out crowd at The Town Hall, opening for Beth Hart. Music is in his blood, bourbon is in his voice, life is in his lyrics and the search is in his soul...now let’s get into his songs!”
