About Juliana Yazbeck
Juliana Yazbeck is an award-winning performer, actor, writer & musician. Her mixed cultural background influences her work: Blending English & Arabic, her words champion matriarchy, indigeneity & the right to cultural autonomy. Musically known for combining Arabic aural traditions with powerful vocals, electronic ambience & poetry, Juliana’s presence inherently challenges the status quo. Her debut record SUNGOD, released in 2018, was awarded PRS Foundation’s Women Make Music Award.
Concerts:
Juliana recently played the iconic Electric Ballroom (2020) & London’s ULU alongside Sudanese icon AlSarah. In 2019, Juliana headlined the National Theatre River Stage and Liverpool Arab Arts Festival & was nominated for the Arab British Centre’s Award for Culture.
Acting:
Juliana was recently cast as Niqabi Ninja in Sara Sharaawi's seminal play of the same title (premiering at Toynbee Studios, London, July 2021). She is also known for playing Roza Salih in Glasgow Girls (National Theatre of Scotland) and Yara in the Emmy-winning series Shankaboot (BBC World Service).
Writing/Performing:
Debuting her solo poetry show "Ana El Mukhalles / I am the Saviour" at London's Grand Junction in March 2021 (MARSM/Grand Junction), Juliana is now taking it on tour, starting at Olavsfest (Trondheim, NO) in July 2021.
Juliana also writes regularly. Her words feature in gal-dem magazine and on Medium.com.
