In 2019, Ian Thomas breaks away from his past, but thanks to the freedom this brings—without a record deal or management—he realizes that he is primarily an artist, a musician through and through. He spends more time than ever in the studio, collaborating with everyone who crosses his path. He makes beats, produces, writes lyrics and instrumentals. His passion is back. Simultaneously, he draws inspiration from his eclectic taste in music: from Justin Timberlake to Queen to heavier American hip hop. But Belgian and Dutch hip hop also captivate him. He grew up with De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig on repeat, and today, Dikke & Snelle top his playlist. He was so impressed by ‘Scars’ from the latter that collaborating with the producer—Donda Nisha—was high on his wish list. That fusion of pop elements and hip hop was also his thing. As of 2023, he is fully back with dreamy pop songs that radiate the same zest for life as Ian himself.
