About Morgan Joanel
"It's rare to meet someone who's a natural in more than one creative area"
- Adrian Breakspear, ARIA Award Winning Producer / Gang of Youths
M O R G A N J O A N E L
Musician and visual artist, Morgan Joanel, is weaving her live looping skills and evocative imagery into a captivating artmusic story that unfolds not only live on stage, but long after you leave the show. Layering husky harmonies over loops of electric guitars, Morgan’s bohemian style bleeds through pulsing beats with a hat tilt to the soul of blues - it’s no wonder an eclectic mix of US and UK superstars have handpicked her to warm up their crowds when touring around Australia.
Most recently in April 2019, as Morgan was playing an intimate gig in Perth, it was UK artist Anne-Marie who found her live looping sound irresistible, promptly asking her to open her Perth show the following night to an audience of 2000 at Metro City, in which Morgan took the chance to road-test new songs from her forth coming EP. But this isn’t the biggest stage she’s played. Morgan has taken her layers of soulful harmonies and guitar loops across Australia as main support for international acts including Adam Lambert, Jason Derulo and Newton Faulkner, captivating audiences for almost a decade around the country.
Travelling between Perth, Sydney and the USA, Morgan has spent the last few years writing and working with Grammy nominated and Aria Award winning producers, collecting the seeds of a collection of songs that now make up her forthcoming EP. With both independent and major label releases in the past, her new music (co-produced with WAM Award Winning producer Dave Parkin) and the art collection to accompany it will be released independently in 2019 thanks to her enthusiastic supporters who recently funded a $12k Kickstarter to bring the concept to life.
Whilst the multi-passionate creative has an extensive list of fashion design successes and is constantly challenging her expression with new artistic mediums, it has always been music that brings her heart to life. Coming full circle, Morgan’s new project is an exploration of how music relates to imagery and story telling, and will take it’s first breath with the independent release of her first single accompanied with visual artworks to expand on the music.
