Heri Joensen

He was born in the capital Tórshavn on February 21,1973 but grew up in a village consisting of only two houses with a spectacular view of saga-drenched islands. Right in front of his youthful eyes lived the legends of the past, the Faroese heroes Tróndur í Gøtu and Sigmundur Brestisson, who struggled over power, wealth and religion. At the age of fourteen Heri began playing guitar; at the age of seventeen he started playing in local bands. By this time Heri’s family had relocated to the well-populated fishing port of Runavik. Like so many talented Faroese, Heri moved to Denmark for further education. There he met up with former bandmate Kári Streymoy and they started forming Týr. In the mean time, on the education side of things, Heri's initial plan was to pursue a degree in Indo-European Comparitive Linguistics. Since he spent most of his time playing guitar and failing classes, he decided to switch careers and attend the music conservatory in Copenhagen, Det Alternative Rytmiske Konservatorium (D.A.R.K.). Between 2000 and 2003 he studied at D.A.R.K., majoring in Guitar, Vocals and later Music Theory. Vocalist, guitarist and composer of the bands Týr and Heljareyga, creator of YouTube instruction videos on guitar playing, vocals and songwriting.
