About Captive State

Captive State was formed by Tom Bootle (b. 1978) and Joe Kennedy (b. 1981), who met playing in a funk and soul covers band in Oxford. The name comes from the title of a book by George Monbiot. They put together an eight-piece band incorporating live brass, percussion and decks for the Truck festival in 2005. Having played a series of live gigs to widespread acclaim, they spent most of 2007 holed up in their Whitechapel studio writing and developing their sound. This resulted in the creation of the Elmore Grove EP, produced by Lemon Jelly's Nick Franglen, which is due to be released at the end of May 2008.
