About Double Date With Death

Double Date with Death (DDWD) is a psychedelic rock band led by Vincent Khouni and Julien Simard. In an astonishing mix that links a resolutely punk sensibility to an aesthetic that places itself between the smoky psych of the 70's and the contagious rock of the Strokes, DDWD's sound is all of these without being reduced to them. On stage, the quartet with catchy melodies and thunderous riffs transports the audience by its ardor and explosive energy. If their melodies can sometimes remind a Beach Fossils who would have jammed a lot with Brian Jonestown Massacre and My Bloody Valentine, their lyrics, meanwhile, evoke both the efficiency of Jonathan Richman and the alternation of beauty and social criticism of Prévert. Recorded at Pantoum in 2018 in collaboration with renowned producer Guillaume Chiasson and released in January 2020, their previous album, L'Au-Delà, was warmly received by the public and the media, both in Quebec and internationally (it was distributed by Howlin' Banana in Europe and Resurrection Records in the United States). As part of the art rock wave sweeping the Montreal alternative scene, this opus was nominated in the rock album of the year category at GAMIQ 2020, received important mentions (BrooklynVegan, Les Inrocks, Magic, Le Devoir, Le Journal de Montréal, URBANIA, Canadian Beats, among others) and counts more than 145 000 streams on Spotify. Motivated, determined and definitely passionate, those described by Le Devoir as "heralds of a psychedelic garage rock that has achieved a balance between an almost punk energy and sweet melodies" will not shy away from anything.
PORTRAITS, their third LP offers 10 art-rock pieces produced by ace console player Guillaume Chiasson (Bon Enfant, Ponctuation), was released on March 17, 2023 and has already received rave reviews (Libération, Rolling Stone France, Les Inrockuptibles, etc.). With this more indie and less garage proposal than the previous one, but still 100% franco, the band takes the intensity down a notch to let the melodies and the lyrics shine at full speed. For this album, the quartet had the luxury of experimenting with new instruments and letting their creativity run free. The Jupiter 4 synthesizer, for example, added the childlike sound sought after on the track Toys. Built on creative impulses, each track tells a little story and the album is full of references to cult films, including Stanley Kubrick's The Shining ("Labyrinthe"), Toy Story ("Jouets") and Penny Marshall's Big ("Grand").
