About beating heart
Creative ventures with a charitable heart.
When Hugh Tracey made 35,000 recordings across Africa between the 1920s & 70s, his intention was to reveal the beauty and complexity of the music to a world that saw little value in it.
90 years later, Tracey’s bid to preserve the music of Africa for future generations lives on, as Beating Heart connect Tracey’s ILAM archive with contemporary producers, making fresh sounds for a modern audience.
The first instalment in the series, 'Beating Heart - Malawi' is out now - https://lnk.to/oYQz0FA
Featuring 21 tracks from Machinedrum, Rudimental, Kidnap Kid, My Nu Leng, Clap! Clap!, Lack of Afro, Sonye, Jimi Needles, Throwing Shade and many more.
Building on Tracey’s vision, the income generated will be used to assist people in the areas where the music was originally recorded.
Each 1500 albums sold will mean the sustainable provision of food for a school of 500 forever.
