About Theta

There are 2 artists by the name 'Theta'

1) Is a Post-Rock/Post-Hardcore band from Lawrence, Kansas.
2) Hardcore/Metal/Experimental project consisting of Sacramento, CA native Nick Kent

"Kansas Theta" Formed while in middle school in the town of Lawrence,Kansas, a state in the USA, under the guise of Caustic Soda, the 6 deeply talented musicians (then a 3 piece) released 2 ep's and a full length under that name before a brief hiatus and then recruitment of a 4th member when suddenly they became as they are known today, Theta.

A self-titled debut ep ensued and Theta's progressive emotive pop stylings were fully realised. After a 5th member joined the band, this time a full time keys and electronic contributor, Theta took the road with some heavy weight bands including Casket Lottery, Houston, Dirtnap, 90 Day Men, Coalesce, Lafayette and Tristeza. Theta's brilliant live perfomances paved way for a strong underground following.

In 2002, Theta recruited a full time drummer to finally become the 6 piece they play as today and they went into the studio to record an epic 5 track EP entitled 'Tone Poems for Sad Times', which is their easiest recorded work to track down. It was released on the label 'Translation Loss Records', home to an intimidating blend of 'post rock' and 'post hardcore' bands such as Mouth of the Architect and Rosetta.

"Sacramento Theta" was at a time a post-metal/ambient band taking on the sound of acts such as Isis, Cult of Luna, Pelican, and Neurosis. Late in 2008 the band collapsed after nearly a year of playing to do personal dispute between 2 members. Vocalist/producer Nick Kent took on the name and formed his version of Theta. Thus far he has yet to record anything original, but has started making reduxes similiar to those of Jesu/Godflesh frontman Justin Broadrick. these can be heard at myspace.com/thetaprojects
