About The Hvddle

They are the bold Jamaican-American journeymen from Philadelphia; the real deal that millennials have been waiting for to make music history. The Hvddle is a battalion of brothers armed with No Bad Energy; and through their ruthless authenticity, whether good, bad or ugly, they aim to motivate the community through their innovation, art and teamwork. They manifest self-awareness and through a global sound with flavors from reggae, country, rock-n-roll, hip-hop and soul genres, they voice a progressive message for both the human and superhuman race.

Othneil, Fred, Josh and Rashard were all born in Philadelphia and experienced their childhoods during the 90s when fusion genres were emerging. They were musically gifted, outspoken kids inspired by music in their homes and in the Christian church. Church gave them the chills for music that was uplifting; and their authoritative, Jamaican immigrant parents had delightful tastes in music, both classic and current. These church and domestic influences combined with the American styles of music, (some of which they had to sneak and listen to) on the radio were the chief influences on their artistry.

After many years of spiritual growth, teamwork and fostering their gifts these friends began to discover themselves as not only musicians/producers but as well-rounded music artists. Fresh out of high school Othneil and Fred began collaborating with artists in and around the city, such as French Montana, Sugar Tongue Slim, Jade Alston and Sam Adams. During this time their songwriting abilities grew tremendously and they realized that they had a real message to convey that was quite different from what their peers were listening to. This was more fuel to the fire so in 2010 Othneil and Fred began to self-produce, write, record and mix their own unconventional projects with the support of their teammates.

In 2013 Othneil, Fred and Josh moved under the same roof in Philadelphia and The Hvddle was officially born. At their house which they also called The Hvddle, they immediately adopted an open door policy. Home is where they provided a fun, progressive environment for their animals and for the community. The Hvddle was a place for real people to connect, learn from one another and be creative. It was also the place where they produced, wrote, recorded and mixed projects such as FIRSTDown; so the immediate community and anyone visiting was almost always guaranteed to get the exclusive on new material by The Hvddle. Whether they preferred hardcore Hvddle originals with deafening 808s or their more jovial tunes with rhythms resonant of Grease times, the feedback from the people was all Love.

So great, great vibes were cooking up and the synergy between the community and the band led to successful Hvddle house parties, gatherings and jam sessions. They quickly began booking notable venues in Philadelphia such as The Hard Rock Café, The Legendary Dobbs and World Café Live. These live showcases of their eclectic music and vibrant stage presence helped them gain even more momentum. As a new indie band The Hvddle was accomplishing more than they ever imagined; and with the help of some friends they were able to create music videos to help capture their brand. Now more people got a glimpse into their dutty, candid lifestyle and the feedback received was Love.

After living for over a quarter decade these men have found the joy, even at times when they felt uncertainty. After being evicted from The Hvddle in 2015, driving cross country to California and living in their vehicles in pursuit of their dreams, they have many stories of triumph to tell for years to come. Their journey to the west coast shows their dedication to grow their enterprise by all means necessary. After all they’ve seen, heard and done, today, Othneil, Fred, Rashard and Josh stand with a Universal outlook on spirituality and an infinite outlook on human capability.

Their music is a direct reflection of their lives and so they emphasize courage, determination, teamwork, the power of knowledge and most of all the sovereignty of love. One may compare The Hvddle to the hippies of the 60s era, with their emphasis on great vibes, unity and their go green (or smoke it rather) lifestyle; but they humbly consider themselves Superheroes of the New Generation. The Hvddle is not just a band with a brand; they are a movement with an extension of teammates, whom they call All-stars. Together they inspire people of all ages to fearlessly and relentlessly nourish their potential as individuals who can make a positive impact on the world.
